Radlager hinten
Hi all,
Restoring an Commodore -68 with some upgrades
Changing rear wheel bearings. Does anyone know which way the bearing should be mounted, one side has a protruding part? then there is a smaller ring that I do not understand the function of (no. 35 and also featured in the other photos). Should it be fixed at a particular distance with e.g. Loctite?
Thanks
Best regards
Fredrik

Re: Radlager hinten
I am not 100% sure but i also got those once and they are not fully correct.
The bearing is asymmetric and therefore the correct seating needs to be adjusted with quite some washers.
The correct skf number is 360643., they are symmetric and do not have this strange rim.
However it can be done, i just dont remember how.

Re: Radlager hinten

Re: Radlager hinten
Hi,
Thanks for the input.
Should I use any Loctite or similar to fix the bearing in the ”house”?
When I removed the old bearings/rear axle it was quite easy, I guess the bearing does not have to be supertight/hard pressed in the ”house” since you also have some pressure sideways on the outer part of the bearing from part 32 (adjusted with thin metal ring)? To have the right distance of the bearing sticking out to fit the thickness of part 32 I guess I need to put the protruding part of the bearing facing inwards.

Re: Radlager hinten
Ja but no loctite, its pressed axial.
The axial play needs to be +0.05 to -0.15 mm (- means pressed and is recommended)
And i think with your type of bearing i needed to put about 1 mm shim or washer. You can buy these with 0.1 mm thickness. I just cut some 0.8 aluminium and used it between 2 shims. But that you have to measure yourself.

Re: Radlager hinten
Das is glaube vom KAD und Rekord A

Auch MantaAsconaKadett, such dir was aus.

Re: Radlager hinten
Excellent, thanks for the repair manual picture Joan!
Still not sure in which direction I should install the bearing though. I send an e-mail to the supplier PS autoteile but I guess the do not have that detailed knowledge. I also send an e-mail to Krausse Rennsport and asked how the bearings they sell look.

Re: Radlager hinten
From Krause I got also the wrong ones.
The direction I think only one was possible.
My handnotes put it towards the differential.

Re: Radlager hinten
Hi all,
Got this answer from PS autoteile;
”es gab beidere lagerversionen von Opel. Der metallring muss nach aussen stehen.”
Sorry my German is not that good, to which side should the protruding metallring face, inwards to the center of the car or outwards towards the brakes?
/Fredrik
